A Few Fall Trees and Etc.

We are still seeing a few pretty trees in our area.

My favorite trees are those that are a shade of red.

Our neighbor's trees are prettier than ours but the colors aren't quite as vibrant this year as in others.

I was sad to see a For Sale sign posted in the neighbor's front yard yesterday.  The woman who lives there broke her hip some time ago and has been in a care facility since.  She lost her husband a few years ago and lived alone.  I know she hoped to be able to come back home.

This is our huge oak tree in the Back 6.  Most years, the color of the leaves turn a beautiful shade of deep, dark red.  But like most of the trees this year, it doesn't have much color.

I wish someone were standing in front of the tree in order to give you an idea of just how big the tree is.  There was another just like it to the right and one year a bad storm blew it down.  The storm was so bad that BG and I went to the basement and were looking out the window and saw it fall.  After the storm passed, we could see that the trunk of the tree was hollow.

After my doctor's appointment yesterday...which was good, by the way.  Doctor was proud of my blood sugar numbers and I've lost 6 pounds.  To be honest, I can't tell it.  I did mention the vertigo and we think the cause is most likely nasal congestion caused by allergies.

Back to yesterday...I went to the Big Town after the appointment to look for some comfortable shoes to walk in when I go shopping or go to Branson.  Hint, hint.  :)  Wish I could wear my Skecher's flip flops all year long.  After trying on around 2 dozen pairs of shoes, I finally found a pair that were comfortable.  They are a Skecher shoe that is sort of like a tennis shoe.  Do you have a favorite brand of shoe?

One of the stores I went to was playing Christmas music.  Really?  Already?  I think I said it out loud, too.  I still think most businesses just skip right over Thanksgiving.

The weather is chilly one day and warm the next.  I turned on the a/c in the car yesterday.  It's a little chillier today, but this weekend is supposed to be in the 70's.  I hope BG will help me this weekend to pull out the dead and dying flowers and put away flower pots.  I also want to transplant some lilacs that are coming up around the main bush and plant a couple of little redbud trees that have sprouted up in a flower bed.

Do you have big plans for the weekend?  Hope you have a nice one.

Happy Friday to you!
xo Cheryl

  1. Your color is pretty, Cheryl. We didn't get a lot of color in our trees here this year..but had patches where they were bright and vibrant.

I like Aerosoles when I can find them in my size. I have had very good luck with them as everyday flats-they are comfortable and wear well. I am really hard on shoes so if they hold up for me-they will hold up for anyone. lol

Glad your doctor's appt went well. That is always a good thing. My annual mammo and yearly physical is coming up in a couple of weeks. i always look forward to that---NOT....lol

Have a great weekend- xo Diana

  3. Gorgeous! I too would favor the red leaves!!

The 'scary' statue at the buddhist garden is a foo dog. (Actually lions). They protect, secure & bring fortune. One model has an open mouth the other shut & different sexes).

  5. Cheryl, I am so glad you got a good report form the dr. Good for you losing weight. I wish I could motivate myself to do it. I love the beautiful trees...and you are right the colors are not what they used to be. So sad about your neighbor lady. I always feel it's heartbreaking when something like that happens. I wear a lot of sketchers. I have some boots I like. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  6. Our trees are not as brightly colored as they normally are this time of year. There was too much hot and dry weather around here. That is a beautiful oak tree. It is amazing how a hollow tree can look fine from the outside and then be blown over exposing just how bad a shape it was really in. We had a big blue spruce tree in our front yard. I told my husband last year that I didn't like the way it was suddenly leaning to one side. It looked healthy except for that though. Then this year it was leaning even more. My husband thought it still looked ok. Then one stormy day I noticed the big tree swaying even down at trunk level as the wind blew. We had it cut down, and lucky we did, because it was rotted in the middle from down in the roots that were also wet and rotten to about 4 feet up inside of the tree. The tree had just about 1 1/2 inch of wood and bark all around and hollow in the middle. Thank goodness we had it cut down, it could have fallen on the house. I miss that spruce tree though.

  7. Yes, we have the air conditioning on right now! I can't remember it ever being so warm this long into the fall. I love the trees! Especially the gorgeous red one by the gazebo. I can only imagine how huge your oak tree is...how wonderful!

  8. Indeed you do have some pretty trees in your area!! I never tire of autumn. I only wish it lasted a little longer . . . and I suppose I wish it was a little cooler too. We have had a few days of cooler temps, but many warm days too. Kati's birthday was yesterday and she had wished for warm weather. It was about 77 degrees so she was happy. :)

  9. Hi Cheryl~

Your fall colors are just gorgeous! Our colors were not as pretty this year either - that's what I have been hearing from all over the country...so sad. That big Oak tree is gorgeous! I'll bet that was scary watching the other one fall. I worry about that with the big trees around my house. They are huge and will get even bigger over time, but, I probably won't live here when they get that big...:0)

Glad to hear your Dr. appointment went well! Hey, six pounds is six pounds, kudos to you!! I get sinus infections really easy, and our windy dry weather doesn't help. I have been fighting one for a week or so, I hope it's goes away before Thanksgiving.

I have such a hard time with shoes! I have arthritis in the joint of my big toe, and it's impossible to find comfortable shoes!! I'm with you, I would wear my flip flops all year if I could. My favorite shoes are, Birkenstocks. I know, they aren't the best looking, but they are
so comfortable, a little pricey but they have saved my poor feet!

I know, Christmas music before Thanksgiving?! I wish the stores would just let Thanksgiving get over first. I heard Christmas music before Halloween in one store.

The weather here is cold, I'm pretty sure we will get snow before the week-end is over. I'm ready for winter...not the snow, but cooler weather. I have a birthday next week, so my kids are coming over tomorrow to celebrate with me - I'm not sure why I celebrate old age... ;0) It will be nice to have them all here. I think they are making a few different soups and rolls, cake and ice cream will be on the menu as well, yum!

    Enjoy your week-end sweet friend!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

  10. I feel so bad about your neighbor, Cheryl. It's my remote nightmare to have to give up my home when I get older. I hope she is happy.

Great news on your heath...progress, as slow as it can be, is fantastic. I'm still working on my weight and high blood pressure.

We have tossed the idea around about going to Branson. It's about a 6 hour drive, but we could then drive on the Asheville. In any case, I hope you have a great time!

  11. You found some pretty leaves to photograph. Like so many others, our colors are not so vibrant this year. Thankful for your good dr. report. How nice to have some baby lilacs and red bud trees to transplant. Don't work too hard.

  12. I keep hoping the fall color will get better. So happy your lab work is getting better! You go, girl! It is sad about your neighbor...

  13. I enjoyed seeing how the color is shaping up in your area. It may not be living up to the standards of past years, but it still looks colorful.
Hooray for a good report from the doctor. Also, congratulations on your weight loss.
As for shoes, just last weekend I was researching comfortable shoes on the internet. I'm so tired of the same (ugly) choices. After reading reviews, etc. I took the plunge and ordered 2 pairs. The first pair was Rockport sandals which I wore all day yesterday with good results. The second pair is a company called Soft Walk. I had never heard of them until I saw them online. People raved about how comfortable they are so I am currently awaiting my pair to arrive. I swore I would never order shoes online, but I found sites with free return shipping so I figured what the heck. I hope you find some that work for you.
    Happy November.

  14. that is one big beautiful tree, and the red at the top is just glowing... glad to hear the weightloss and sugar down. good job.
do your sketchers look like these? I only own two pair of shoes that are not sandals or flip flops since we wear them year round... http://snapperone.blogspot.com/2017/03/no-shoe-laces-why-knot.html both are sketchers.

  15. Your colors are prettier than ours. Except for a few specimen trees, we are enjoying various shades of brown.
Know what you mean about the weird weather. Too many times I use both heat and A/C in the same day.
Congrats on the good check up and weight loss. Keep up the good work.

  16. Hi There, Congrats on the weight loss and blood surgar numbers... Do you have a meter to check your BS each day? That always helped me --and reminded me to eat healthy and exercise.... I do better some days than I do others... ha

Beautiful colors. Our colors (what is left) have changed just this week. BUT--they won't last long since it's breezy and the leaves are really coming down today.... It's been a strange Autumn for sure --and it's still so so so so darn HOT here... GADS.

My two favorite shoes are S&S (ugly but good shoes) and Asics --tennis shoe... I have really bad and ugly feet ---so wear my tennis shoes most all of the time when I'm outside....

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  17. Beautiful colors in your part of the country and wish we had a bit more here. The storm that blew into the northeast last weekend took away so many of the leaves. Good news on your recent checkup and sure that it made you feel good too.

  18. The 2nd photo is amazing. Fiery red with white background. Love it :)

  19. WOW, your Autumn color is amazing. Great photos!
We had one of our dear neighbors move last year. It was a shock for us to see the fore-sale sign and how fast it all went and they were gone. Our neighborhood is slowly changing.

  20. Glad to hear the checkup was so good. The trees are beautiful, especially that red one.
It seems our yard trees have been slow to color, but finally are getting some nice color.

I discovered Sketchers memory foam insoles this year and love them. I have two pair. My favorites are called Gostep lite. I bought a pair for colder weather that are a fake leather but I haven't worn them enough to really comment.

  21. I am glad the dr's appt went okay...your trees are so pretty....the color here is beginning to lose the brightness...kind of getting the faded look.

  22. Oh Cheryl those trees are gorgeous!! Love that vibrant red one the best... Sorry to hear about your neighbor:( Those are always sad times. However, on to brighter things...glad to hear about the weight loss..(good for you!!) and that the vertigo is improving. I can't even imagine.. Favorite shoes? Well, they have to be SAS. They are amazing..you can buy them, put them on and walk forever and never have an issue. Just like you've worn them for years!! I hope you had a nice weekend!

    Blessings,
    Gert

  23. It seems like this year there are many that are writing about how the trees are as vibrant in colors this year. It is true here too. Our temperatures have been all over the place too.
The photo of the tree with the brilliant red color is of course, my favorite.
I do love the photos of the big trees in the back 6. You have such a lovely view.
I'm happy you found some good walking shoes for going to your favorite place.
I feel sad about your neighbor. It is always so hard for them when they can't come home. I have an Aunt in that position. She has a home that they are trying to sell. She is in an assisted living place and wants to go home so bad. She will turn 97 in December. We just traveled to her home and spent an afternoon with her; it was so awesome. She wants me to help her with my Grandmother's history so I brought home some of it.
Have a sweet rest of the week!
Blessings and hugs for you dear friend!

  24. That tree next to the gazebo is breathtakingly beautiful! I'm always a little sad when all the pretty leaves have fallen and we're stuck in a drab world of greys and browns until winter arrives.

    Blessings~
